Steamboat Summer 2010 has been great. Just the right temps, and just the right amount of rain. It’s funny how fast the weather can change in the mountains.

Summer storms in the Rockies can be quite dramatic. The strong storms are usually accompanied by hail, high winds and bitter cold rain. But the good thing is they don’t last very long. This storm caused a lot of damage around town; power outages, blown-down trees and an enormous amount of rain.

I was able to set up shop for a little while before the rain rolled in and captured this lightning shot striking the top of Sleeping Giant (see map below).

  3. That is just absolutely perfect. The colors of the sky with the sun setting, the depth (and menace) of the rolling clouds and the fact that the lightning is hitting Sleeping Giant – just unreal! Love this “vision”.
