Goodbye August – I hardly new ya!
Well, September is here which for us is the end of summer and the beginning of fall. Where does the time go?

The thing that sets Steamboat apart from other “resort” locations is that we have a real community, real businesses and real people. Often we forget that Steamboat has more to it than endless vistas, wide open spaces and towering Rocky Mountains.

So this month I was motivated to highlight this guy because he represents that other aspect of Steamboat plus a few more things to me.

If I Only Had a Heart!

To begin with, I always associate fall with watching the Wizard of Oz. I suppose that’s a childhood influence because the Wizard of Oz would always come on in the fall. There was certainly some childhood influence when considering a shot for the month of September.

More importantly, I think so much of what makes photography interesting isn’t so much the quest for the perfect sunset, lighting, or rare opportunity. All those things are great and when the stars align some really cool things can happen.

What makes photography interesting to me, is finding the potential to turn something that may be totally ordinary into something interesting. Finding the right angle or perspective that gives something that’s otherwise totally dull an exciting perspective.

So, here’s my non-nature, real-community, Wizard of Oz inspired desktop wallpaper. The source is the statue for the Tin Man roofing & metal company over in the industrial section of town.
Quirky & simple yet, it represents a different aspect of Steamboat and photography.
